Fotografisk Center is an association founded by the Copenhagen European Cultural Capitol 1996 and Copenhagen County Council in 1996. Fotografisk Centers primary purpose is to spread awareness and increase interest in photography, from photography as an art form to photo-journalism. Our focus is on contemporary art photography.
Fotografisk Center produce six to eight exhibitions yearly with Danish and international photography and related practices such as video and film art with a special focus on the Nordic region. The exhibitions alternate between solo presentations and thematic group exhibitions.
Additionally the Center has a small bookshop stocked with related photographic literature and titles published under the Centers own publishing house. In cooperation with Hasselblad/Imacon the Center has established a digital workshop: The Digital Room where professional photographers and artists are able to work with the latest digital photographic processes.
Fotografisk Centers FotoForum is supported by DJ:Fotograferne (a group within the Danish Union of Journalists): these are a series of lectures on photography that normally relate to current exhibitions but can also be more general in character with regard to photography in practice. The idea is to create a forum for debate.
