Cisternerne (The Cisterns) were originally built as a water reservoir and supplied the city of Copenhagen with fresh drinking water for more than 100 years.
Later The Cisterns were drained, revealing an extraordinary feat of engineering and were reborn as an underground exhibition hall, presenting a variety of art exhibitions.
The distinctive architectural setting and the special climatic conditions evoke images of sacraments. Very slowly but continually, water is still penetrating The Cisterns. The humidity of the 4400 square metres underground space is close to 100%, with a constant temperature between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius because daylight never gets in.
