Astrup and Bordorff enter the museum’s engine room with a new film installation that visualises, highlights, lampoons and dramatises the work being done with art and the national visual narrative at SMK.
The film mixes facts and fiction, speculation and supernatural elements. It is based on thorough and surprising research into the museum’s history and on conversations with visitors and staff, whose stories, anecdotes and professional considerations are exposed to equal parts direct reporting and shameless over-interpretation.
The film, which features a soundtrack composed by the artists, is installed in conjunction with props and scenographic elements. The new work is the latest instalment in the SMK Plus exhibition series, where artists enter into a dialogue with the museum’s collection.
