At a time when the pandemic, climate crisis, radicalisation and right-wing extremism are front page news everywhere, this seminar puts the agency of art on the agenda. The seminar Aesthetic Agency – Please engage me! will explore the possibilities open to the realm of aesthetics. What can art do and make us do? How can curatorial practices effect shifts and changes? How can aesthetic modes of expression set actions in motion? Featuring contributions from curators and artists alike, the seminar will pave the way for a discussion of art’s agency in the fields where activism and aesthetics overlap, adding greater nuance to the question of what an act of change can be. Over the course of the day, new terms such as ‘care’ and ‘materiality’ will be added to the vocabulary of protest, and a joint workshop will translate words into action in a final performance.
Participants at the seminar include Helena Reckitt, Tominga Hope O’Donnell, Carl Martin Faurby, Kirsten Astrup, Maria Bordorff, Louka Anargyros, Mette Winckelmann, Rikke Luther and Signe Vad.
The seminar is a collaborative effort arranged by ART WEEK and SMK.
