Opening: The Beast Within

At the opening of Heine Kjærgaard Klausen’s solo exhibition The Beast Within at SPECTA, Heine Kjærgaard Klausen is staging a performance in the gallery room with a number of performers.

Heine Kjærgaard Klausen works in a great variety of media: sculpture, collage, video, performance and installations. In his works he seem to channel existential issues through everyday banalities found in tattoos, popsongs, mainstream film and culture. From these sources, Klausen uses texts and imagery and processes the associated political, religious and social meanings and in his works lies a desire to expose the hidden. Klausen’s artistic installations seem to attack a picture perfect exterior, to unveil the imperfect and here he also exhibits his own doubts and shortcomings as an artist. By using everyday pop-cultural references, Klausen manages to form new meanings in well-known characters, where also the titles of the works create frames of understanding when engaging in the works.
