TO BREATHE MATERIAL
Beyond the Sky, Beneath the Ground will unfold as two interconnected exhibitions in dialogue: a group exhibition featuring Anna Samsøe (DK), Anne Guro Larsmon (NO), and Linnea Gad (SE), followed by a solo exhibition with Iris Smeds (SE), which will develop the theme of New Materialism from each their perspective. Both formats invite the public to explore a sensual understanding of material, taking as their starting point in how we as biological bodies and souls relate to one another as well as the world around us.
According to New Materialism, everything in the world consists of a materiality with an inherent consciousness and thus also an embedded agency, which opens up an ethical discussion of the position of humans as the centre of the world. New Materialism seeks to dismantle this position by changing our understanding of the world around us with regard to how we have exhausted the earth and misused nature, and formed out surroundings after our own whims.
