EICHU tableware is a stoneware tableware, which combines fine art and functionality. Each piece of the tableware is handmade and one of a kind. The stoneware has been through several glaze firings and each part has been hand painted and glazed by Cathrine.
The title EICHU refers to the Buddhist monk Eichū (永忠), who brought tea to Japan on his return from China in the 9th century. EICHU tableware is made for a house in Sweden, which Cathrine Raben Davidsen is in the process of building with her Swedish husband. However, she has decided to make a limited number available.
Cathrine Raben Davidsen is in addition to her paintings and drawings, also recognized for her ceramics and today works with some of the most prestigious international design galleries, who focus on collectible design. In 2020 Clay Ceramic Museum Denmark showed the exhibition TOTEM, where Raben Davidsen presented over 150 unique ceramic works made in collaboration with Royal Copenhagen. Drawing inspiration from history, mythology, and personal memory, her highly intimate pieces are marked by their strong narratives, vibrant use of color and delicate craftsmanship.
Cathrine Raben Davidsen received her MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Prior to this she studied at art academies in The Netherlands and Italy. She is represented by Nilufar Gallery, Milan and The Future Perfect, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
